On the old road between Gyantse and Lhasa, you will see the dazzling Yamdrok-Tso Lake (4488 m) from the summit of the Kamba-la pass (4794 m).
The lake lies several hundred meters below the road, and on a clear day it has a fabulous shade of deep turquoise green color. This fresh water lake, unlike other Tibetan lakes is non-saline. It extends up to 624 sq km and is shaped like the two pincers of a large scorpion effectively creating a large island within its reaches. For Tibetans, it is one of the four holy lakes of Tibet
