Far Out Nepal ‘Nature alone makes it one of the most fascinating countries in Asia.
A confusion of mountains and hills, almost as if the Himalayas, in an attempt to reach the heavens, had crumbled back down to earth’

Nam-Tso Lake

This lake situated about 190km northwest of Lhasa, is the second largest salt-water lake in China. The Nyenchen Tanglha mountain range, with peaks of over 7000m towers over the lake to the south.

The lake water has a shade of turquoise blue and in the open spaces you can see many tents of the local nomad herders. Visiting the Nam-tso Lake has become very popular with travelers to Tibet. However, travelers are advised to acclimatize at least for 3 - 4 days in Lhasa prior to taking a trip to Nam-tso. There is also a trekking loop of this Lake which begins and ends at Damzhung (4130m), a roadside town 160km north of Lhasa. The trek climbs out of the Damzhung Valley via Largen La (4970m), then descends to the mystical environs of Tashi Do hermitage and finally to Nam-tso.
