‘Nature alone makes it one of the most fascinating countries in Asia.
A confusion of mountains and hills, almost as if the Himalayas, in an attempt to reach the heavens, had crumbled back down to earth’
Tibet, the very name evokes feelings of awe and mystery. Also known as “The Roof of the World” this land had been a mysterious Buddhist kingdom for centuries until it was finally opened to foreigners in the mid-1980s. A trip to Tibet is in itself an adventure given the altitude of the country which has an average elevation of 4,700 m (15,400 ft) above sea level.
Tibet is located in the southwest part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and is officially called the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR).
